Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Belong Android app ("Belong", package org.truetechsol.belong.us) and this website. The company responsible for both, the data controller, is:

In short: Belong has no accounts and no servers that receive your study data. Your progress, ZIP code, interview date and answers stay on your phone. The app sends a small set of anonymous usage events and crash reports, and purchases go through Google Play and RevenueCat. Each of these is described below.
What stays on your phone
Belong stores the following only on your device, in the app's private storage:
- Your test setup: which civics test you take, the 65/20 option, your ZIP code and congressional district, and your interview date.
- Your study progress: which questions you know, your review schedule, daily counts, and your readiness history.
- Your mock interview history, including what you said or typed for each question, so the result screen can show it.
- Your settings: app language, study language, audio speed and reminder time.
This data is excluded from Android cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer, so it is not copied to Google's backup service or to a new phone. It is deleted when you uninstall Belong or clear its storage in Android settings. We never receive a copy.
No account, no advertising
Belong has no sign-in and no user accounts. It contains no advertising, does not use the Android advertising ID (the permission is removed from the app), and we do not sell or share data with data brokers.
Microphone and speech recognition
Belong asks for microphone access the first time you choose to answer out loud, in the mock interview or the reading practice. It is never requested at launch, and you can always type instead.
When you speak, Belong uses Android's speech recognition service. Belong receives only the text that was recognised; it does not record, store or send audio itself. Depending on your phone, the recognition service may process your voice on the device or send it to its provider (on most phones, Google) under that provider's privacy policy, which we do not control.
Questions are read aloud by your phone's own text-to-speech engine.
My officials and the officials update
Your ZIP code is looked up on your phone, in a table of ZIP codes and congressional districts that ships inside the app. It is not sent anywhere.
To keep the names of officials current, Belong downloads an updated list from this website (belong.truetechsol.org) at most once a day, and when you ask it to check. The request contains no identifier, no ZIP code and no study data. As with any web request, our host (Vercel) can see your device's IP address in its standard server logs.
Purchases
Belong Pro is bought inside the app through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play; we never see or store card or payment details. Google keeps its own records of the purchase under Google's privacy policy.
We use RevenueCat to check whether Belong Pro has been bought, so it can be unlocked and restored on another phone with the same Google account. RevenueCat receives the purchase details from Google Play (the product, the purchase token and dates), an anonymous identifier it creates for your installation, and basic technical details such as the app version and device platform. It is not used for advertising or profiling.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use PostHog (EU Cloud, hosted in the European Union) to learn whether people find their test, study, try the mock interview and buy Pro. The app sends only these events:

Each event also carries ordinary technical context added by the analytics library, such as the app version, Android version, device model, language and time zone. Belong removes the device name, the user agent, the mobile carrier and network details before anything is sent, and tells PostHog not to look up a location from the IP address.
The analytics never receive your ZIP code, state, district, interview or filing date, anything you said or typed, audio, your country of origin or anything about your immigration case. Events are tied to a random identifier created on your phone; Belong never links it to your name or any account. Automatic screen tracking, app-lifecycle tracking and session recording are all switched off.
Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes. When the app crashes, Crashlytics receives the technical details of the crash (the stack trace), the app version, the device model and Android version, and an installation identifier created by Crashlytics. Error messages are removed from the errors Belong reports itself, because a message could contain something you typed. Crash reports contain no study data.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, Belong asks Android for permission to show notifications and schedules the reminder on your phone. The reminder text is put together on the device; nothing is sent to us and there is no push server.
Google Play features
Belong uses Google Play's in-app updates, to offer a newer version, and in-app review, to ask for a rating at a moment that suits. Both are provided by Google Play under Google's privacy policy; we do not receive your rating or review through the app.

This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Its Google Play links carry a campaign tag (for example utm_source=belong.truetechsol.org and which button was used), so that Google Play Console can count how many installs started on this site; the tag says nothing about you. Its fonts and images are served from this site, not from third parties. It is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep standard access logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for security and operation.
Children
Belong is made for adults preparing for the U.S. naturalization test. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
How long data is kept
Data on your phone stays until you delete it or uninstall Belong. Analytics events and crash reports are kept by PostHog and Firebase under their own retention settings and are used only in aggregate. Purchase records are kept by Google Play and RevenueCat as needed to keep your purchase working and to meet legal and accounting requirements.
Your choices and rights
- Delete everything Belong stores on your phone by clearing its storage in Android settings, or by uninstalling the app.
- Turn off the microphone or notifications at any time in Android settings.
- Because analytics and crash reports are not linked to your name or any account, we usually cannot find the data that belongs to you. Changes to this policy
If Belong starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
